3D Character design

This is the stage I am at so far with my burglar Biff design!

Second Trimester

Well we're well and truly back to Uni after the holidays now and already I've got 3 projects on the go. For Intermediate 3D Design, I have to create my very first 3D character which I am really excited about! We have to design our character, model it, rig it, and animate it. The character I am creating is called Burglar Biff.

For group project I teamed up with another 4 students and we have all decided to create a music video in 3D for the alternative rock band, Enemy Poets. We are in very early stages just now but have already began modelling instruments and have decided on our final character designs. So more character modelling and animation-eeek! Very exciting though!

For Sound Production I've been asked to choose an existing radio drama script and recreate the last 10 minutes of it from scratch, again using Pro Tools. I've chosen "The Green Hornet" from 1948 to recreate so im looking forward to that too.

More personal 3D work

Following around 23 videos of tutorials I created this bluetooth headset to practice working with nurbs a little.
I'll go back to this a little later in time and start to texture the headset, it was more a modelling exercise for me!

Personal 3D work

I decided to model a hand gun, based on the 357 Magnum.
I modelled the stubby version.
Then I extended the barrel to see how it would look.

Through the christmas holidays I decided to work away on 3D a little just to practice my modelling skills.

Podcast

For my Sound Theory course work I was asked to create a Podcast on a subject of my choice. I chose mountain biking and interviewed 3 of my friends that are mountain bike mad-like me! Our main task was to make recordings and then edit them all in Pro Tools to make a 15 minute Podcast. I used a Shure SM58 Dynamic microphone to record the narrative and a Zoom H2 condenser mic to record the interviewee's.

House Project

Here are just a few of the images I rendered from the house project. I never really managed to master the brick texture but apart from that im happy with it.

The Phone Model

This was the phone project we were given to practice our modelling skills.

Napier University

Ok so its been a while since my last post on here, Basically its been a busy year. I was awarded my HND for Visual Communication (New Media) In Edinburgh's Telford College. Therefore I was accepted into the Digital Media course at Edinburgh's Napier University at 3rd year level entry.

I had a rather productive summer holiday as I got married in Central Park New York and then spent a further 4 weeks travelling round various states in America. I visited New York, Las Vegas, California, Texas and Miami.

I have had a very busy time back at Napier University and have just completed my first trimester of the course. The modules I chose where, Introduction to 3D design, Sound Theory and Digital Storytelling and I managed to pass all 3 modules with a merit which I was delighted with.

I will post seperate sections for each module.

First i'll tell you about my 3D work.

We were introduced to Autodesk Maya 2011 by our lecturer Gregory who gave us The Well Worn Interior task. The goal for this coursework was to re-produce a photgraph of an interior that was "Well Worn" as the title would suggest. It was a good project to introduce us to different ways of modelling and for me, it was the first time I had really tackled texturing and lighting in 3D.

During this time in 3D we were also given a modelling project where we had to model a telephone in 1 week using reference images. Also we were given a house project which we were given weekly tutorials to model certain parts and items in the house and then left to texture the house the way we like.

I was quite pleased with what I handed in for this and was awarded an A grade pass for my work. As usual though I was critical of my own work as I am always striving to be better.
